The evidence behind peer-first support

Peer support has decades of research behind it, and intelligent guidance is a newer tool we hold to the same standard. Here is what Chaperone measures, why those measures matter, and how we keep claims honest.

Where the evidence comes from

Grounded in established peer-support research, measured in the real world

Peer support is one of the most studied approaches in behavioral health. Chaperone builds on that foundation and adds its own program measurement, so partners can see how trained Peer Coaches and intelligent guidance perform with their actual population.

  • Published literature on peer support and care navigation
  • Program metrics measured within each deployment
  • Human-reviewed quality and supervision signals

Principle: report what we can verify, label what we cannot

“We would rather show a modest number we can stand behind than a dramatic one we cannot.”

The measures that matter

Three outcome themes we track in every program

Behavioral-health programs only help if people reach them, stay with them, and feel supported along the way. These are the measures Chaperone reports with each deployment, defined up front and tracked consistently across the program.

Engagement

Whether people connect with a Peer Coach, return for follow-up, and stay in conversation over time. The difference between a program that exists and one that is used.

  • First-conversation completion
  • Repeat check-ins over time
  • Self-reported sense of support

Access

How quickly someone who reaches out connects with a human, and how reliably intelligent guidance routes them to the right next step, without replacing the person on the other end.

  • Time to first human connection
  • Routing accuracy to the right resource
  • Reach across hours and channels

Support continuity

Whether support holds together across handoffs, escalations, and time away, so people are not asked to start over and a trained human stays accountable for the relationship.

  • Continuity across handoffs
  • Follow-through on escalations
  • Supervisor-reviewed quality
What we measure

The measures Chaperone reports with every deployment

These are the measure definitions Chaperone reports against in each deployment. They are not results from a specific program; actual figures are reported to each partner after data is collected and reviewed.

Speed
Time from reaching out to a first human connection
Return rate
Members who come back for a follow-up conversation
Availability
Guided pathways, with humans on the live cases
Supervision
Escalation-flagged conversations reviewed by a supervisor

How we measure

Honest measurement, by design

We define each measure before a program launches, report against it openly, and let supervisors and partners check our work. AI assists with summaries and routing, but people verify what is reported, and we never present assistance as the relationship itself.

  • Measures agreed up front, not chosen after the fact
  • Partner figures reviewed before they are reported
  • Reported within Chaperone’s privacy and governance posture
